It's combined techniques of GC and MS to analyze mixtures of chemicals with trace amount. Sample is separated by GC, then the respective components pass into MS spectrometer in turn, components are ionized in the ion source, and produce ions with certain charge and different mass. Those different ions have different movement behaviors in the electric field (magnetic field), the charged ions are separated according to mass-to-charge ratio (m/z) through the mass analyzer, mass spectrum is obtained according to m/z ratio order. Qualitative and quantitative results of sample can be obtained through the analysis and process of the mass spectrum.
